Hmmm!

That is rather odd since it was Insp Bates who specifically told me that any registrations and/or photos of oversized vehicles should be sent to the SNT email address of Norfolk Police, who would forward them to the traffic divisions for enforcement.

It is almost as if one cannot trust the police any more!

I have noticed a considerable increase in the flow of HGVs & coaches using these roads over the past couple of weeks and have specifically requested an increase in the police enforcement of the restrictions, though I seriously doubt any will be forthcoming.

I have also contacted NCC highways again, to request better marking of the edge of the highway, using  cones or the like, primarily to protect pedestrians, (especially the schoolkids who have to take their chances in the traffic along LD), but also to protect drivers who consistently leave the edge of the tarmac, (which is so difficult to see), and end up falling into the ruts at the side of the road, (in some cases causing tyre damage).

I had a response from a new name, Paul Cator:
I have been forwarded your comments from the NCC website on problems
with traffic on Barroway Drove and Lady Drove during the surfacing work
on the A1122.

The Barroway Drove / Lady Drove route is not the official signed
diversion, although I can appreciate that many drivers are treating it
as this

The areas where the verge has suffered the most damage are being coned
off and this is being inspected on a regular basis.

There is no intention to cone off the entire length as this is likely to
increase the risk of head on collisions by reducing the perceived width
of the road.

The route will be inspected again once the A1122 has reopened so any
repairs necessary can be carried out.

Note the undertaking to repair the road after the A1122 has reopened..... do we believe they will do this?... do we believe there will be much left to repair come to that?

A quick update from the Nordelph Website.

Quote
Our apologies that -- because this is being sent to everyone on the Nordelph Community website mailing list -- this message will be irrelevant to those receiving it who do not live in Nordelph!

The website has been quiet of late (but will be updated very shortly) but the following has just been received and is of some interest to villagers.  This comes from the contractors responsible for the roadworks (and closures!)

================================

Notification of current progress, as of Friday 10 Dec:

As you will be aware, the recent cold weather conditions have hampered the resurfacing works programmed to be completed by now. Unfortunately the road closure and subsequent diversion routes are still in place at present, and are not likely to be reviewed until next week. As explained in previous consultation letters, the recycling process cannot be undertaken during cold weather, hence the reason for the extension to the programme.

Please see below for the report received today from the construction manager. It is anticipated that Phase 2 requires 7 full days of suitable weather to complete!

Andrew Howes
Mott MacDonald

'Due to the delays caused by the snow and extended low temperatures we now hope to complete all surfacing works and remove the road closure on Phase 1 by the end of Tuesday 14 Dec.
I am reluctant to confirm that we will commence phase 2 on Wednesday 15 Dec until I have a better idea of what weather conditions we are likely to face in the run up to Christmas, as another period of low temperatures will effect the recycling/stabilisation process. It is my intention to make this decision on Monday to ensure that we do not have any traffic management in place over the holiday period.
In the event that we do not proceed with phase 2 before christmas we will use this period to carry out any necessary repairs on Barroway Drove and Lady Drove'.

I spoke to one of the chaps from Trek (the traffic management company) at lunchtime today (Monday 13 12 10), who told me that the A1122 will be opened tomorrow.... (presumably until the new year), so it looks as if we may finally gat some peace & quiet.

It will be interesting to see what, if any, repairs are executed to BD & LD.

From the EDP website this evening (13 12 10):

Work on a main road leading to Downham Market which is a key route for lorries and commuters has been hampered by the recent wintry weather.

The freezing conditions over the last two weeks has led to the second phase of work on the A1122 between Nordelph and Salters Lode being postponed.

The road closure and diversion currently in place are expected to be lifted tomorrow (Tuesday) as the first phase of work is expected to finish today.

The second phase of work will start on January 10 which means the road will be open over the Christmas period. Repair work will instead be carried out on Barroway Drove and Lady Drove.

Once underway, the second phase of work will require eight full days of suitable weather to complete.

The underlying peat and soft ground conditions combined with heavy traffic, especially HGVs, have led to the failure of the road’s foundation layers along parts of the stretch.

Norfolk County Council has apologised for the delays in completing this £800,000 project.
