The other week my husband and I went to the Denver Yard Sale Extravaganza, we thought it was great and came away with loads of goodies and had many chats with the locals. The weather was unbelievable and added to the enjoyment.  The starting place was the school where they sold raffle tickets and refreshments, they handed out a map highlighting the homes that were taken part.

Anyway, with Barroway Drove being one long stretch of road, thought the same idea might be a great community event.  Most of us have stuff we want to get rid of or no longer use and many of us have hobbies and interests that could make good sales as well as promoting our talents.

So what about a Barroway Drove Yard Sale come fun day extravaganza?? and for raising money for the village hall Im sure people wont mind donating a couple of quid and if there is a raffle and refreshments offered, that could raise some money the village hall field could be open to do a car boot the same day? we could also have a competition for kiddies, something like a mask competition, where they all make a mask based on any theme, animals, aliens, favorite character etc  maybe have someone doing face painting at the village hall? a bouncy castle or just keep it simple as a yard sale.   My girls are all grown up now but I was always involved with playgroup / school / village festivals all the way through their childhood when I lived in Watton, Foulden and Mundford, I really enjoyed it.  Now Im into gardening and growing my own produce (or trying anyway) so you can guess what I will be selling at my yard sale Grin

If this kind of event went ahead, then I will be more than happy to create and print the poster and help wherever possible.

What do you think?

I did hear about the denver yard sale and it appears to have been very successful. I will bring your post up at the next committee meeting as I agree it is a good idea. I was wondering  if you would be willing to get involved with this event if it goes ahead.

don't worry we won't forget Lady Drove. In the Denver Yard sale they gave out a map of the village and marked which houses had sales on. we will probable adopt a simular method.

You can use my email address in the next news letter (or whenever you are going to make the suggestion to our community) so people have a contact for registering their interest for participating,  I can collect their details and put them in a spread sheet for you then depending on the resulting numbers, whether its worth going ahead with Barroway/Ladydrove yard sale extravaganza.

Of course, members on this site can either use my email address below, or by using the messaging system on this site.  I will need their name, address, email address or phone number.  I can be trusted with private data, it will only be kept within your committee for organising and not passed on to anyone outside of the committee  Grin

The email address to contact is lynne_hague@yahoo.com

I bought up the yard sale at the committee meeting the other day. The committee like the idea but feel we need to leave it until October time as we are doing the festival of food produce and craft at the moment. We feel this would be a good time to clear out for Christmas and give us time to organise the event.
