WE ARE READY FOR THE BIG ONE!
Thats the verdict of Downham Market Town Mayor John Leach.
Last year we started our Water Festival and it was a huge success and I am really pleased to say that we have already far surpassed the interest shown at this stage in 2007
21 teams will be competing in the dragon boat racing competition thats over 200 people!
Said Kerry Heffernan of Downham Market Town Council: Its proving a major planning exercise to ensure that not only our competitors are looked after but also that everybody coming to watch is catered for both in body and soul!
The teams are drawn from local businesses and organisations and include two junior teams from scout troops in Kings Lynn who will compete for the junior trophy kindly donated by Frank Daymond in memory of his son.
There will be lots to see as well as the racing.
The whole of the landside area is covered with stalls and a funfair.
There is also a good choice of food available.
Everybody is welcome to come and join in the fun said Howard Phillips, chair of the Working Party organising the event.
Dont forget both parking and entrance to the Festival are free of charge.
There is also a free shuttle bus running from the town centre to the Festival site.
Lets hope we enjoy the same good weather as last year.
Programmes (50p) are on sale locally at LEWKS and other outlets in Downham Market containing full details of the days fun

Barroway Drove Community Website :: Downham Market Dragon Boat Race – 8th August >>>

Dragon boat racingThis year there will be 28 teams and each race will be competed by four dragon boats.
Kerry Heffernan of Downham Market Town Council said four boats in each race will make for some really exciting racing and will be great to watch.
So the message from the organising working party is Come on.
Get your team entries in quickly we only have a few team spaces left
The Water Festival is an annual event and is free of charge for spectators who will also find lots to entertain them ashore as well as watching the racing.
Nobody goes hungry with a good selection of food outlets doing a roaring trade.
Lots of stalls, a roundabout, trampoline bouncing and funfair complete the line up.
A complete fun day for all the family and entry is free!
Programmes are available in mid July from LEWKS in Wales Court, Downham Market.
Howard Phillips, Chairman of the Working Party, said we are all volunteers and thoroughly enjoy organising this special day every year.
I should like to thank Downham Market Town Council for their backing without which we could not hold the event.
And special thanks too to Archant for their generous sponsorship, and the Borough of Kings Lynn and West Norfolk too.
