Barroway Drove Community Website :: Archives for: 2008, week 22 >>>

We have been contacted by the organisers of the Downham Market Water Festival to help advertise the event and perhaps get a Barroway Drove team together.
Insert your own jokes here about dragons in the Village.
The event is being held on the Great Ouse Relief Channel, next to the old Thurlow Nunn premises on the 10th August.
The organisers hire in a company who supply and organise everything to do with the dragon boats.
To go part way towards paying for them they are charging 150 per boat this year.
Each boat has 10 paddlers and one drummer.
They have a mix of corporate and club/pub teams entering.
Most get their crews to seek personal sponsorship which pays for the team entry and raises quite a lot extra which they can donate to their chosen charities.
They provide the dragon boats, a professional helm who will also give the team a bit of coaching before they race, buoyancy aids, safety boat cover etc.
At the time of their email they have 6 boats left to fill.
Junior teams (min. 12 years old, max. 16 ‘ish) can compete for their own trophy.
This year each race will be between 3 dragon boats.
Each crew will get three races.
The crews with the best times go onto the finals.
